Würth ferrite 74271633 has a NiZn core for high frequency suppression in the range from 100MHz to 1GHz.  This ferrite should be used with high speed data lines (e.g. LAN or USB) or for high DC current applications (e.g. power supply or motors). Snap ferrites are user friendly and can be added to cables which are hard to access without detaching the cable.

How does a ferrite work?

The conducting wires passing through the centre of a ferrite core from a coil.

When the current flows through the conducting wire, magnetic flux from the high frequency EM noise is induced in the ferrite core as magnetic energy which is then dissipated as heat.

Effectively, the ferrite has absorbed the high frequency electrical energy and converted it to heat.

The heat is not noticeable in most cases.

Do I need to buy the ferrite key seperately?

No

Every one of our ferrites come with a ferrite safety key included as standard.

Is this ferrite available in a different colour?

Yes

Is this ferrite reusable?

Yes

The ferrite can be removed using the ferrite key supplied.

How many turns of wire should be used with this ferrite?

This ferrite will be effective with only 1 turn (wire/cable passing straight through) through the ferrite but the effectiveness of the ferrite may improve with multiple turns of wire/cable through the ferrite. Please check the datasheet to see the optimum configuration.

What happens to the ferrite if the operating temperature is exceeded?

Ferrite cores are made from magnetic materials so the operating temperature is defined based on the Curie Temperature of the ferrite. At and above the Curie Temperature a change in the magnetic properties of the ferrite will occur, whihc will affect its perfromance. Try and ensure the ferrite is used within its operating tempearture range.
